COVID-19 Services Q&A

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It causes flu-like symptoms like fatigue, cough, and fever. In some cases, it can cause life-threatening or serious complications for some people. COVID-19 testing is currently the best way to detect the presence of the virus.

As COVID continues to affect people all around the world, testing is the only way to keep you and your community safe from infection.

Compcare Medical Center provides COVID-19 testing and treatments to members of the community. If you’re sick, planning to travel, or need to undergo surgery, it’s important to make sure you receive the testing services or appropriate treatments as early as possible so you can recover faster or proceed with your plans in good health.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

If you have COVID-19, you may experience a variety of symptoms. Some people have minor symptoms, while others develop serious illness. Symptoms include:

  • Fever and nausea
  • Headaches
  • Chills
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Coughing
  • Body aches
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

These symptoms typically develop 2-14 days after you’re exposed to COVID-19.

What COVID-19 tests are available?

Compcare Medical Center offers the following types of COVID-19 testing:

Rapid antigen testing

A rapid antigen test analyzes your saliva or mucus for the presence of antigens. If your sample has COVID-19 antigens, antibodies from the test will bind to them, yielding a positive result.

Compcare Medical Center performs rapid antigen tests in-house and results are available within 15 minutes.

PRC test

A polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) test also uses a saliva or mucus sample to detect genetic material from COVID-19. It looks for multiple viral genes rather than one, which may provide better accuracy.

To receive a PRC test, Compcare Medical Center sends you to an outside lab. Results are often available within 24-72 hours.

How is COVID-19 treated?

If you receive a positive test, Compcare Medical Center offers the appropriate treatment to manage your COVID symptoms.

For many people, staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest may be enough to recover from COVID-19. However, in other cases, you might need antivirals or other medications. Compcare Medical Center can help determine which treatments are best for your specific condition.

When you’re ready to book your COVID-19 appointment, call the Compcare Medical Center office to schedule a visit. Online booking is also available, and is fast and easy.
